8 Hour Sail with the Whales

Read our guests testimonials!

There is no other tour like it on the BC coast!

Sail with the whales.... moving quietly, sharing in spirit with the orca. For some, the experience of viewing orcas while sailing is the ultimate.

Humpback whale Tail-lobbing

If you are looking for a tour that is truly eco-friendly, these 5 and 8 hour whale watching tours are for you. We have been offering these ecologically friendly tours for the last 19 years.
On tour, S.V. Tuan travels by engine power at a speed that is compatible with marine life.

When the orcas are foraging and it is not possible to sail, we turn off the engine and drift in the tide. Hydrophones carried on board enable passengers to listen to orca (and dolphin) vocalizations and if they are foraging, it is usual at this time that they will also be vocalizing.

All Day: 8 hour tours that include the magical "inside" waters.

In recent years we have been offering some 8 hour tours that have proved to be very popular. People enjoy a full days outing on the water and, if the orcas are a distance away, there is no pressure to head back for a second tour. The quality aspect of the tour is enhanced by a longer presence on the water viewing orcas and other marine life in a manner that is ecologically sound.

Orcas pass Alert Bay

S.V. Tuan provides passengers with a wonderful viewing capability and a comfortable ride with a feeling of exhilaration from being close to the water. People tell us time and again, how close they feel to nature; their senses stimulated by their close proximity to wildlife and to the wilderness area we tour through.

An awe inspiring tour; it captivates and invigorates the soul. On the way home, with the viewing of tidal currents and pristine island waterways, the "grand finale" is for some, the highlight of their tour. It brings nature into perspective, with the realization that every "living being" on earth is connected, and that nature is real and alive on the Edge of the Rain coast. Vivid images of a protected inner ocean rise from above and below the surface of the water. Bull kelp stems reach upwards, their fronds spreading out toward the sunlight, golden and glistening; a kelp forest under which lie, the gems of an aquatic habitat.

Orca

Bald Eagles atop Giant Cedar trees, in and out of nests and soaring high, Belted Kingfishers speed on by, a shrill cry uttered as only they know how. Harbour Seals hauled out on rocky outcrops, Stellar Sea Lions feeding in the tide, Dall's Porpoise, at times bow riding, inches beneath the surface of the water, black and white, their sleek bodies darting back and forth, exhaling and inhaling simultaneously, diving and resurfacing with ease. A Humpback Whale's powerful breathe, the "blow" can be seen from miles away, lingering as sea smoke that is suspended momentarily and suddenly, an enormous fluke is glimpsed in the surge of a flooding tide.

One cannot help but feel the magic of these "inside waters", they fill your mind and nurture your spirit, and when you leave, you take from this wilderness area, a remarkable lasting impression.

As she stopped talking, the old woman and the boy looked to the east and they saw a great rainbow flaming in the sky where a thunderstorm had passed.
"The rainbow is a sign from him who is in all things," said the old wise one. "It is a sign of the union of all peoples like one big family. Go to the mountain top, child of my flesh, and learn to be a Warrior of the Rainbow, for it is only by spreading love and joy to others that hate in this world can be changed to understanding and kindness, and war and destruction shall end."
from the Cree legend, "Warriors of the Rainbow."
